Hélène developed at an early age a fascination for the patterns, colors, symmetries and forms that emerge naturally from matter. She founded Helnium in 2024 and is currently working with coordination chemistry, crystallography and self-organization, she began using the laboratory not only to study molecules, but also to reveal their beauty. She uses real scientific processes, from synthesis and crystallization to microscopy and scientific imaging to create patterns, colors and structures directly from matter itself. These structures become artworks, textiles, objects and visual identities, making science the starting point of design rather than simply its inspiration. At its core, Helnium explores a broader question: why do similar geometries and patterns emerge across different scales of nature, and why are we so naturally drawn to them?

The ambition is to build a new language of design, the one written by nature itself.

Vitamin B50

Recipient of the Object of Study Award at the SNSF Scientific Image Competition 2026, Vitamin B50 was described by the jury as "The Baroque Molecule", highlighting its remarkable structural richness, intricate crystalline architecture and striking visual complexity. Captured using polarized light microscopy, the artwork reveals how molecular self-organization gives rise to patterns that blur the boundary between scientific observation and ancient architecture.

Featured by the Nature Picture Team as Image of the Month, Vitamin B50 explores a striking convergence between chemistry and human perception. The intricate branching architectures formed through the self-organization of crystallizing vitamin B molecules evoke the ornate geometries of Baroque ornamentation and festive decorations, an observation echoed by the SNSF jury, who described the work as "The Baroque Molecule." Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these patterns illustrate how simple physicochemical principles can spontaneously generate extraordinary structural complexity, revealing unexpected visual parallels between the organization of matter and the forms that humans have long associated with elegance, celebration and beauty.
