This work presents wine crystals formed by the crystallization of potassium bitartrate, a compound naturally present in wine.
Potassium bitartrate Chemical formula: KHC₄H₄O₆
When wine is stored, especially at low temperatures, potassium bitartrate can crystallize and precipitate. In red wine, these crystals are naturally colored by anthocyanins, the molecules responsible for the wine's color. When viewed under a microscope with polarized light, these crystals interact with the light and reveal geometric structures and intense colors. The image shown is the result of an actual chemical crystallization process.
