MultiDimensions | CuSO₄·5H₂O
Scientific Description
The design of MultiDimensions is created directly from genuine crystals of copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate(CuSO₄·5H₂O), observed under polarized light microscopy. A classic coordination compound, copper sulfate crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system. Its intense blue colour originates from d-d electronic transitions of the Cu²⁺ ion within its hydrated coordination environment, making it one of the most recognizable transition metal compounds in chemistry. Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate is widely used in analytical chemistry, electrochemistry and crystallography. It is a key reagent in the Biuret test for protein detection, an electrolyte for copper electroplating, and a classical model compound for studying coordination chemistry, crystal growth and optical anisotropy.
Symbolic Meaning
MultiDimensions explores three complementary dimensions of human experience.
1. Vision : Awareness & Perception
The central crystalline structure resembles an eye, symbolizing observation, curiosity and expanded perception. It reflects the role of the observer in understanding both nature and reality, reminding us that discovery always begins by learning to see differently.
2. Transformation : Growth & Evolution
The surrounding blue crystalline structures evoke the delicate wings of a butterfly, symbolizing transformation and renewal. Like crystallization itself, meaningful change occurs progressively through organization, adaptation and time.
3. Modernity : Nature & Technology
Its metallic reflections and luminous textures create a dialogue between natural mineral structures and contemporary technology. The artwork explores the balance between scientific progress, innovation and our connection to the natural world.
MultiDimensions brings these three ideas together in a single composition: perception, transformation and progress, and it reveals how matter can reflect the complexity of the human experience.
