Rhapsody of Matter

from CHF 32.00

Rhapsody of Matter is one of Hélène’s first microscopic works, created from the crystallization of citric acid. In this image, Hélène sees a form of music. Everything seems chaotic at first, but the more you look at it, the more you start to see a rhythm. The geometries repeat like a melody, break, overlap and grow in different directions, almost like they are following their own composition.

This way of seeing matter is strongly inspired by Kandinsky, one of Hélène’s favourite artists, and especially by his connection between music, colours and shapes. Here, every colour could almost be a sound, every line a movement and every black space a silence.

What fascinates Hélène is that all of these shapes appeared naturally during crystallization. The structures interact with polarized light and suddenly this invisible organization of matter becomes visible through colour. It is chaotic, but somehow organized. Geometric, but never perfect. Fractal in the way smaller structures seem to become part of something much bigger.

Like a piece of music, but composed by matter and the laws of the universe.
