The vibrant red to pink color of Vitamin B₁₂ also comes from its cobalt atom. At the center of every cobalamin molecule lies a single cobalt ion surrounded by a complex corrin ring. When light strikes the molecule, the cobalt atom and its surrounding electrons absorb specific wavelengths while reflecting predominantly red wavelengths back to our eyes. This interaction gives Vitamin B₁₂ its characteristic deep red color and explains why highly purified Vitamin B₁₂ crystals often appear as brilliant shades of crimson, ruby or pink under the microscope.
